Atlas Copco GA Series Maintenance: What's in a Service Kit and When to Use It
Atlas Copco's GA series is one of the most installed rotary screw compressors in the world, and its maintenance schedule is built around standardized service kits. Understanding what each kit contains helps service companies quote accurately and avoid downtime.
The three kit levels
- 2,000-hour kit: typically air filter, oil filter and minor consumables.
- 4,000-hour kit: adds the air/oil separator element and oil system items — the "major service".
- 8,000-hour kit: full overhaul-level consumables for heavy-duty machines, depending on model and environment.
Example: GA55–GA90 machines
For GA55 to GA75 units, the 4,000-hour preventive maintenance kit is OEM part 2901162900, and the 8,000-hour kit is referenced under 2901920070. Independent aftermarket suppliers bundle equivalent kits at significantly lower cost.
Aftermarket kits vs OEM
A well-built aftermarket kit contains elements that fit and perform to the same specifications, at typically 30–60% below OEM dealer pricing. For service companies maintaining fleets, the margin difference compounds quickly across dozens of machines.
